Tall Ships 2000 Bermuda Photos & Info

In September, 1999, we had no idea the Bermuda cruise we were signing up for was during the Tall Ships 2000 race. Celebrity's Zenith left the Port of New York on Saturday, June 10, 2000, and arrived at the Royal Navy Dockyard in Bermuda, on Monday, 9:00 AM, June 12, 2000. We had expected to arrive at the Port of Hamilton, Bermuda. The Tall Ships were docked at the Port of Hamilton, having arrived from Cadiz, Spain. As we docked at the Royal Navy Dockyard, the Tall Ships started to leave the Port of Hamilton, going right past us. The cruise ship passengers were very surprised. One ship, a pirate ship, headed straight for the Zenith. As it got closer, it fired it's cannon. It was so loud and unexpected, I almost had to change my shorts. The Tall Ships were headed to Bermuda's Great Sound, where the race for Charleston, SC, would start at Noon. Their sails were not up because the wind was blowing from the exit of Hamilton Harbour. More photos and information is available on the following link.
